Image
Ultimate Filipino Carinderia in  Divisoria Aling Zeny's Carinderia There is nothing more local than eating on a local Carinderia - style restaurant here in Manila, Philippines! This is a local street food restaurant in Divisoria, Manila called Aling Zeny's Carinderia that offers a wide variety of Filipino food. They serve delicacies from the northern to southern parts of the Philippine archipelago. It's a makeshift Carinderia restaurant located beside a busy street of Recto - Divisoria area. They serve hot and fresh food and you can actually see the owner and the crew as they prepare and cook the food. According to the owner, aling Zeny, they start cooking food around 2-3pm and they are open from 4pm to 11pm (or until supply last) to cater students and people who are about to go home from work. Hong Kong Food Tour: Awesome Dimsum in Lú Fēng Restaurant

Image
Ultimate Dimsum Restaurant at Victoria Peak, Hong Kong My family and I went to Hong Kong in the evening of July 9 for a week long vacation and for some food hunting. For our first day, we visited Victoria Peak . We took the easiest way up which is via Tram and we were able to reach Sky Terrace 428 to checkout the sky scrapers of Hong Kong. They have a great view up there! You can actually see the man-made beauty of Hong Kong with the contrast of its natural landscapes. View from Sky Terrace's 360 degrees view deck We went there during day time tho so we were not able to see the "dancing lights" of Hong Kong from Victoria Peak. After roaming around the area, we look for a good restaurant that serves Dimsum meals. I was thinking of going back to Kowloon area but we decided to just eat there in the mall. So we went to a restaurant called Lú FÄ“ng Restaurant that serves different kinds of Chinese dishes that I'm not familiar with. So, we

Filipino Food: Sisig and Dinakdakan Fusion

Image
Sisig and Dinakdakan Fusion You know it's going to be an epic dinner when your dad is in the kitchen cooking some great home made  Ilocano  food! For tonight's we had an Ilocano -style pork Sisig  but this is not your usual pork Sisig because instead of mincing the pork, the meat is chopped into chunky bite size pieces. Dad made a fusion of Dinakdakan and Sisig that makes it more awesomely native. Dinakdakan is another Ilocano Filipino dish while Sisig originated from the province of Pampanga Usually Sisig undergoes 3 stages of cooking which are boiling, grilling, and deep frying. For this dish, dad used pig face and ears. He boiled it until it's tender, then he let it cool down a bit for a couple of minutes then he tossed it over the pan for deep frying until the pork skin became so crispy! You can just imagine the texture of the crispy pork skin, the tenderness of the meat, and the gelatinous texture of the pork fat that gives joy in every bite

Singapore Trip: Flavorful Indian food in Abbas restaurant

Image
Abbas Restaurant in Little India, Singapore Photo me together with my mom, siblings, and aunties We had our breakfast at Abbas Restaurant  in Little India, Singapore during on our first day in Singapore. The place is just few meters away from Kawan Hostel (Which is a very affordable and clean hostel perfect for backpackers and travelers with a tight budget) where we stayed during our trip. Abbas Restaurant is a low-key whole-in-the-wall type of restaurant located in 28 Dunlop St, corner Jin Besar road, Little India, Singapore. They serve mostly traditional Indian with a twist of Singaporean delicacies. Photo with one of the amazing cooks in Abbas Restaurant What I love about this restaurant, aside from their awesome food, is that they have an open kitchen where you can see the food being cooked. They also have a huge glass cabinet where they put all of the freshly cooked food and you can just point and choose on what to order. I actually ordered a simple

Filipino Food: Insarabasab, a local Ilocano way of grilling pork!

Image
Insarabasab, an Ilocano delicacy To be honest, this is one of my personal favorite food and I would like to share how awesome this is! This is a local Filipino-Ilocano dish called Insarabasab where the Liempo or pork's belly also known as bacon strips are roasted over to an open fire. It's almost similar to pork barbeque but what makes it more native is that it only needs salt and pepper for seasoning. This dish is perfectly served with awesome spicy-vinegary sauce and steam rice! For the Sawsawan or sauce: 3/4 vinegar 1/4 soy sauce cracked black pepper 1/2 teaspoon of salt 2 sliced banana pepper 1 red pepper 5-8 calamansi 2 red onions (You can add more chilis in the sauce) It is juicy, fatty, tender, and flavorful! You can actually taste the smoky flavor from the meat! It is plain and simple but so delicious! Ordinary day turned awesome with this Insarabasab This dish is perfectly served with some grilled vegies. In this one, the grilled

Filipino Food:Amazing Patatim, Filipino - Chines braised pork leg!

Image
I feel so lucky to have a friend who is very talented when it comes to cooking and one of her creations that I really really like is Patatim ! Patatim or Filipino - Chinese Braised pork is made from a whole pork leg and knuckles cooked on low heat for hours submerged in a sweet and salty sauce. Star anise and the banana flower are what determines the flavors of this awesome dish. The pork is so tender, the meat just falls off the bones! You will also love the gelatinous consistency of the tendons and the meat which literally melts in your mouth! With the addition of the the flavorful and fatty bone marrow will surely hit the spot! Awesome Pata Tim! Perfectly served with steam rice and chili flakes as always! A delicacy made by my friend, @ vapingbarbie For more Travel and Food blog, feel free to follow me on: Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/joferson.balmonte Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/jofycreams/ Twitter:  https://twitter.com/JoferBalmonte #T
